Accessibility
AquaCert is continuing education for wastewater operators. A certificate here can be needed to keep a licence, so being unable to take a course is not a small inconvenience — it can affect somebody's ability to work. We would rather tell you exactly where we stand than claim more than is true.
What works today
- Captions on every course video. All narration is captioned on screen, synchronised to the audio.
- Written transcripts. Where a course has one, the full narration is available as text on the lesson page — readable in the browser, searchable, and downloadable as a plain text file that works with a screen reader or a braille display.
- Keyboard navigation. The site is ordinary HTML forms and links; it can be operated without a mouse.
- Resizable text and zoom. Pages reflow rather than breaking when you zoom in.
- No time limits on a course. You can stop and resume as often as you need; your position and progress are saved.
- Certificate verification without signing in. Anyone you give a verification link to can check a certificate without creating an account.
What is not good enough yet
These are real limitations. We are naming them rather than leaving you to find them.
- The video captions cannot be turned off, resized, or restyled. They are drawn into the picture itself rather than supplied as a separate track your player controls. That means a screen reader cannot read them, and you cannot change their size or colour. The transcript is the way around this today, and moving to selectable closed captions is on our list.
- Not every course has a transcript yet. Where one is missing, the lesson page will not show a transcript section. If you need one for a course that does not have it, ask us — we can usually provide it quickly.
- Captions and transcripts are English only.
- We have not been independently audited. We have not commissioned a formal WCAG conformance review, so we do not claim a conformance level. We would rather say that than imply an audit that has not happened.
If something stops you
Tell us and we will fix it or find you another way through — including, if it comes to it, delivering the material in whatever format works for you so that your certificate is not held up. Contact us here, and please say what you were trying to do and what got in the way. We treat an accessibility problem as a fault in the product, not a special request.
For employers and procurement
If you are buying training for a public body and need this in a formal format — an accessibility conformance report, a VPAT, or answers to specific questions in a solicitation — contact us and we will complete it honestly, including the limitations above.
